Abstract Pediatric obesity is increasing in prevalence and severity. The magnitude of the problem of extreme obesity in youth now warrants the attention of all pediatric health-care providers. Adolescents who are currently choosing bariatric surgery should expect significant improvements in obesity status and related comorbidities. It is also possible that improvements in health and psychosocial well being may exceed that which would be expected if operation were delayed until later in the life course of extreme obesity after comorbidities progress and worsen. |
