Abstract The present study to evaluate the effects of Cassia fistula and ficus carica leaves extracts in management of liver tumor, as a trial to prevent metastasis and increase of tumor cell apoptosis. Adult male albino Wistar rats weighting (110-150g) were housed in polypropylene cages at normal room temperature and maintained under 12 h light/dark cycle. The rats were fed pellet diet and water. The animals were acclimatized to laboratory conditions for seven days before commencement of the Rats were randomly divided into 8 groups with 5 animals in each group. The results indicated that liver cancer induced in animals due to injection with DENA and CCL4 which increase the levels of AFP,CEA,PKC and ALP , also increase the relative weight of liver and decrease the body weight, these compound also affect in the number of leucocytes . The methanolic extracts of cassia fistula leaves and Ficus carica leaves were evaluated for hepatoprotective activity in DENA and CCl4 -induced liver cancer rats. The extracts at an oral dose of 500 mg/kg exhibited a significant protective effect reflected by lowering the serum levels of AFP,CEA, PKC and ALP, Also protect body from losing weight and protect liver from weight increasing. Histological studies of the liver revealed that Cassia fistula and Ficus carica leaf extracts caused hepatoprotective effects against DENA induced changes. Also, liver sections from rats injected with DENA and CCl4 immunostained with p53 showed strongly positive expression of hepatocytes neuclei. But liver sections from rats treated with Cassia fistula and Ficus carica immunostained with p53 showed reduction of the positively expression of P53. It could be concluded that both plant extracts a reduced the progress of hepatocarcinogenesis, Moreover, Ficus carica showed a more potent effect in prevention and treatment of the disease. |
