Abstract A total of 122 intestinal samples were collected from diseased (suffering from necrotic enteritis (NE)) or apparently healthy turkey poults at different ages (2 months to 5 months age old) and seasons (summer & winter). Most of the samples were obtained from turkey poult flocks in Kafr Ghataty’s farm, Giza, Governorate. The bacteriological examination revealed that 56 (45.9%) of the samples were culture positive. Clostridium perfringens was confirmed by biochemical characters and was analyzed by multiplex PCR in order to determine the toxin genes for the molecular typing. Type A without enterotoxin was recovered from 53 isolates (43.4%). One isolate was type A with enterotoxins (0.82%), another isolate was Type C (0.82%), and a third isolate was type E (0.82%). Types B and D were not identified. |
