Abstract

The testis is one of the most important organs in the male human body. Each testis produces approximately 100 million spermatozoa per day and secretes several male sex hormones.
Gibberellic acid (GA3) is one of the most active hormones of gibberellins. It is used widely in Egypt and other countries to increase the growth of many fruits and vegetables. People may be exposed to residues of GA3 in diet derived from consumption of different types of fruits and vegetables treated with GA3. Exposure to GA3 residues may also occur through drinking water.
Grape seeds proanthocyanidin extract (GSPE) has attracted considerable attention to improve the health status. It has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties. It also has cardio- protective properties and it can improve the liver functions and diabetic complications. Moreover, it has a role in preventing cognitive decline. Furthermore, it promises as novel anti-microbial agent. Besides all of the previous health benefits, GSPE is effective in improving the physical and psychological symptoms of menopause.
Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of GA3 on the histological structure of seminiferous tubules of testis of adult albino rat and to evaluate the possible role of GSPE as a protective agent.
The present study was carried out.
