Abstract

The orgamc ligands HIT, HAlT and HBITr were prepared and allowed to react with· transition metal ions, Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Fe(III), Cd(II), Zn(II), Mn(II), and U02(II) to obtain the corresponding metal complexes. The coordinating sites of the ligands were evaluated. The characteristic behaviour of the metal complexes in the solid as well as in solutions states, were interpreted through physicochemical measurements viz., elemental analyses, IR, UV-VIS, NMR, mass spectra and conductivity, and magnetic moment measurements, TG-DSC, and pyrolytic analyses as well as pH-metric, and spectrophotometric studies. The obtained results concluded that HIT, HAlT and HBITr behave as monobasic ligands and their dissociation constants ranged from 9 to 11. While HIT and HAlT were found to act as monobasic tridentate ligands through the coordination of de protonated NH, carbonyl, and amino groups, HBITr acts as monobasic bidentate ligand through the coordination of de-
protonated NH, and carbonyl groups.
