Abstract Ceiba Pentandra(L.) Gaertn. belongs to family Bombacaceae is a gigantic, fast-growing tree distributed in the tropical and subtropical regions of the world and planted as a wayside and shade tree. The different parts of the plant have been used in traditional medicine as emetic, diuretic and antispasmodic. Recent pharmacological investigations have indicated that different extracts, extract- fractions and occasioinally pure compounds from various morphological parts of the plant are useful as anti-inflammatory, hypoglycemic, hypolipidemic, anti-ulcerogenic, and hepatoprotective. Our study is partitioned as: Part I: Botanical study Part II: Establishment of DNA fingerprint Part III: Phytochemical study: A. Preliminary phytochemical screening. B. Investigation of the lipids content of n-hexane extract. C. Establishment of the HPTLC fingerprints profile. D. Phytochemical study includs isolation and identification of the possible different constituents of the plant. Part IV: Biological study. |
