Abstract
This study was carried out at National Research Center ( N.R.C. ) Experimental Station,Giza
Govemorate,dnring the two successive seasons 1994-1995 & 1995-1996.
The object of this work was to compare three new introduced seeded artichoke cultivars namely ,
Imperial Star , Green Globe , Large Green , with the local cultivar ( Balady ) in annual production
method under the Egyptian conditions for vegetative growth , yield , head quality and some
medicinal purposes .
Results indicate that two cultivars, i.e, Imperial Star and Large Green, can be considered as
promising cultivars . These cultivars showed high yielding ability and produced heads of good
quality. Large Green cultivar recorded high content of cynarin in both leaves and edible part while
Green Globe cultiVar recorded high content of inulin in leaves and edible part .
