Abstract In the late sixtieth, great interest has been devoted to the seismic hazard studies due to their invaluable share in mitigating the damage left by most of the earthquakes. All the available techniques were integrated together to achieve such purpose. In the same time, most of the seismologists have been and still trying to get use of all of the available techniques. As an appropriate and economical tool, microtremors have been directed to be used as one of the recent techniques in estimating the ground response. The study of the microtremors has started to proceed along not only the study of its nature, but also on their practical application. The present thesis deals with an investigation of the microtremors phenomenon. Two approaches are considered when handling the microtremor phenomenon. The first approach deals with the investigation into the nature of the microtremors. Within the frame of this approach, the different characteristics of the microtremors have to be investigated and tested. The second approach deals with the practical use of the microtremors in solving some of the earthquake engineering problems. |
