Abstract The present study was carried out through three successive seasons, i.e., 1995/96, 1996/97& 1997/98 in order to evaluate the vegt.tative propagation of three almond eultivars; (Nonpareil, Texas and Avola) using softwood & hardwood cuttings, mutual bench grafting & budding and slotted side grafting techniques. In cutting experiments, various IBA levels and several collecting dates were tested in two successive seasons. In mutual bench grafting experiments, Marijuana plum hardwood cuttings were used as scion for almond rootstocks (to encourage or induce root formation on almond hardwood cuttings) or as rootstock for almond cvs. (to detect the inhibition or retarding effect of almond cuttings on root formation on Marianna plum cuttings). In grafting experiments, three different techniques were adopted, i.e., shield budding, yema budding andslotted side grafting where Nonpareil, Texas and Avila almond cvs. were grafted onto Guardsman peach seedlings in the appropriate time of two consecutive years. Data concerning rooting efficiency parameters and chemical composition of cuttings at the time of collection were considered in all the cutting experiments. In addition, grafting success % (take %), and vegetative growth parameters of scion shoot were studied in all grafting experiments. However, the obtained results could be summarized under the following topics. |
