Abstract

Pesticides asfenitrothion are routinely used to control pests, therefore, it is feasible to anticipate that agricultural field workers, and the general population may be exposed to these insecticides, which exert many deleterious effects on the organs of the body mainly on the liver.
Liver plays a pivotal role in regulating various physiological processes in the body such as metabolism, secretion, storage and synthesis.
There are many kinds of chronic liver diseases including cirrhosis. Patients with cirrhosis and portal hypertension present with functional disturbances of some organs including kidney causing hepatorenal syndrome.
Natural dietary antioxidants play an important role in healthcare because of their biological and medicinal benefits. Punica and physalis contain anti-oxidant active ingredients and can be used to manage several diseases through their beneficial effects.
This study attempted to identify the prevalence, the characteristic clinicopathological features and the possible risk factors ofHRS among cirrhotic patients admitted at Tropical Medicine Department and Hepatology Intensive Care Unit (HICU) of Zagazig University Hospitals along one year duration.
Also, this study wouldinvestigate in vitro anti-oxidant activity of the major constituents in punica and physalis which identified using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. In addition, the total phenolics andflavonoids of punica juice, physalis juice and silybummarianum extractwould be determined.
Furthermore, this study was conducted to evaluate the effects of fenitrothion on the liver function and its possible effects on kidney function.
