Abstract

Cancer is the worst disease that hazer people health all over the world. Cancer
dangerous lies in its ambiguity, as it is a result of abnormal growth of cells that grow and
affect normal cells behind it. It can spread in different sites as it uncontrolled in its move or
dispersion. Although tumor cells are no longer dependent on the control mechanisms that
govern normal cells, they still require nutrients and oxygen in order to grow. All living
tissues are amply supplied with capillary vessels, which bring nutrients and oxygen to every
cell. As tumors enlarge, the cells in the center no longer receive nutrients from the normal
blood vessels. To provide a blood supply for all the cells in the tumor, it must form new
blood vessels to supply the cells in the center with nutrients and oxygen. In a process called
angiogenesis, tumor cells make growth factors which induce formation of new capillary
blood vessels. The cells of the blood vessels that divide to make new capillary vessels are
inactive in normal tissue; however, tumors make angiogenic factors, which activate these
blood vessel cells to divide. Without the additional blood supplied by angiogenesis, tumors
can grow no larger than about half a millimeter.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer of women worldwide. It consider the most
common cause of death, incidence rate is high in more developed countries and low in less
developed ones. In Egypt, the last two decades it increased and still.
Cancer treatment is one of the main challenges that face the scientific concern all over
the world. The cancer incidence percentage increases year after year. The most used
treatment is chemotherapy. The adverse side effects of chemotherapy affect all body
.However, it still not effective enough to treat cancer. Bone is considered the most affected
by chemotherapy, it causes osteoporosis and in some cases it may cause bone metastasis.
In the present work, we used vitamin D in order to prevent chemo therapy effects on
bone health of patients. Vitamin D treatment was used in conjunct with chemotherapy during
its six cycles. We also tried to find relations between vitamin D treatment and breast cancer
recurrence and its effect on other biochemical blood analysis.
In the present study, we discussed whatever calcium, phosphorus, alkaline phosphatase
and parathyroid hormone had any association with vitamin D supplementation and their
effect on bone health either their levels increased or decreased according to chemotherapy
cycle.
Our result showed that vitamin D treatment is very useful in maintain bone health and
to prevent breast cancer recurrence and decreasing CA15-3 levels in blood (breast cancer
tumor marker).
Our experimental results showed that:
 Food supply could be a reason for preventing occurrence of breast cancer in women.
 Vitamin D increase to maintain a healthy life without many problems in bone or
cancerous tumors.
Summary
50
 Vitamin D increase bone health as it increases calcium absorption that considers the main
source of bone formation.
 Vitamin D treatment affect all studied biochemical blood analysis in a way that improve
health and prevent breast cancer recurrence
 Vitamin D treatment increases bone mineral density and that was a main hypothesis of
our study.
