Abstract In this work, the prognostic value of AKI in patients with SBP was evaluated. The relationship between AKI and the outcome of such patients including mortality and morbidity was also studied.A single center, observational, prospective study was conducted on Patients presented with SBP, who were admitted in Hepatology and Gastroenterology ward, Mansoura Specialized Medical Hospital, Mansoura university.Patients were followed up for 3 months. It included 150 patients (of which 8 patients were missed), and according to AKIN criteria, patients were classified into 3 stages (stage 1, stage 2, stage 3).All the patients were subjected to: full medical and drug history, complete clinical evaluation for liver cell failure manifestations, and full basal laboratory and radiological investigations with following serum creatinine monthly for 3 months.Important scores were calculated for all patients once admitted including: Child Turcot Pugh (C.T.P) and Model of End Stage Liver Disease (MELD).It was found that at the time of first fulfilling AKIN criteria, 64% of patients had stage 1 AKIN, 17.33% stage 2, and 18.66% stage 3.There was a significant change in the number of patients among the three groups at the end of the study versus at admission indicating progressive deterioration of kidney functions. Overall mortality was high (70.42%), the vast majority of mortality was found to occur during hospitalization (77% of total mortality), most of them were AKIN stage 2 and 3. |
