Abstract

The present study was perfonned on 90 adult male patients, in addition to 30 adult controls, patients ranged from 23 - 57 years, sera of all subjects were analyzed for HCV-Ab, HBsAg, HBcAb, HAV-total, liver enzyme§ ( AST, ALT and Alkaline phosphatase ), ultrasonography, and bilharzia! Ab in order to select the groups. HCV-positive group and HCV positive group accompanied by bilharzia!patients were confinned by RIBA and HCV-RNA by PCR tests. Moreover plasma proteins (total proteins, Albumin, Globulin and NG ratio), lipid profile (cholesterol, triacylglycerol, high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and risk factor), trace elements (Cu++ , Zn++ and iron), ferritin and fh microglobulin.
Results of this study clearly indicate that the majority of patients with liver cirrhosis and schistosomiasis have a possibility for association with hepatitis-C or B vrruses, therefore patients should not be assumed to have progressive liver dysfunction due to progressive schistosomiasis liver disease, but should be suspected of having associated hepatitis-C or B virus infection. Ferritin and iron are the most important parameters that should be followed in the liver cirrhotic patients
with schistosomiasis infection in order to expect the early infection of hepatitis-C virus Also f32 microglobulin, zinc and copper should be followed to early distinguish of HBV infection
from HCV infection.
