Abstract This study showed that there is rise in plasma levels of osteopontin in left sided heart failure and there is rise in the plasma level with increased severity of heart failure indicated by NYHA functional class. There was significant difference in osteopontine plasma level between patients with corpulmonale and control groups but there was insignificant positive correlation between levels of osteopontin and PASP in patients with cor pulmonale. Further investigation about the relation between plasma concentration of osteopontin and severity of heart failure may be helpful in establishment of cut off values for the use of these analytics in the prediction of development, severity and prognosis of HF and pulmonary hypertension. Further investigation on osteopontin as target of therapy in cases of left sided heart failure and pulmonary hypertension should be considered. |
