Abstract At present, the manufacturing of nonmetallic material is mostly manual or with mechanical machined such as cutting, drilling and engraving. Thus, there is a need to introduce new processing methods in order to improve both the working conditions and the quality of the products made of these materials. So, this thesis introduces a design and construction a CO2 lasers for cutting non-metallic material. This thesis studied the potential of the CO2 for cutting applications and the benefits of its beam quality. The literature review covered the principles of the designing CO2 laser as well as the principle of laser cutting. The test materials were non-metallic materials such as paper, plastic, glass, texture with different thickness. The experiments focused on the maximum cutting speeds with appropriate cut quality, Kerf width, cut edge perpendicularity and surface roughness were the cut characteristics used to analyze the cut quality. Attempts were made to draw conclusions on the influence of CO2 beam quality on the cutting speed and cut quality. |
