Abstract FMD is a highly contagious trans-boundary viral disease of cloven hoofed animals causing huge economic losses. Egypt is endemic with three FMDV serotypes A, O and SAT2. In spite of vaccination in Egypt, frequent incidences of Foot and mouth disease infections cause great economic losses. Effective control of the disease require a continuous screening of co-circulating serotypes by a sensitive, specific and rapid diagnostic tools that recognize the infected animals and detect which serotype is present. In the present study, Duplex rRT-PCR assay for pan-serotypic detection and typing of FMDV SAT2 viruses in Egypt and One-step multiplex RT-PCR method for typing of FMDV serotypes A, O, and SAT2 circulating in Egypt were developed. The two assays were evaluated by testing of different A, O and SAT2 archival previously sequenced samples at the World Reference Lab. Of FMD, Pirbright, UK and Genome Research Unit, Animal Health Research Institute, Giza, Egypt and proved high specificity and sensitivity. These assays can lead to rapid diagnosis of the disease, improvement of the diagnostic capacity of our laboratories and saving cost, time and effort. |
