Abstract

The avermectins are a group of macrocyclic lactones with exceptional insecticidal and anthelmintic activity. Their remarkable broad spectrum activity and safety profile put these drugs at the cornerstone of modern anthelmintic therapy in different animals.
Doramectin is an exceptionally potent anthelminthic was selected as the best of a series of novel avermectins prepared by mutational biosynthesis with a broad spectrum of activity against nematode and arthropod parasites acting at very low dosage. The present study was carried out to evaluate the possible adverse effects of a single therapeutic dose of doramectin on semen characters and hormonal profile in male White New Zealand rabbits. Moreoverhistopathological examination of testes, epididymis and prostate gland was done. A total of twenty apparently healthy male White New Zealand mature rabbits with average body weight of 3.5-4 kg and 9 months old were used in this study. Rabbits were divided randomly into two equal groups each of ten rabbits as follows:First Group: kept as control. This group was injected subcutaneously with 0.04 ml normal saline.Second Group:Doramectintreated group.
