The study examined the industrial activity in the marshes of southern Iraq in comprehensive and detailed study in order to find out the reality and know the issues which stand without development, and try to propose solutions to those problems with the aim of creating economic development in the marshes area. The study includes six chapters, preceded by an introduction and conclusion which includes the summarized results. The chapters are as follows : Chapter one came under the name of the geographical features of the study area, and addresses several areas ; a brief history of the study area, location and spatial relationships, manifestations and characteristics of soil and climate, population, urban centres. Chapter tow, it looks at the origins of Marshes and their geographical distribution and the stages of drying. It turns out that there are many opinions and theories about the formation and evolution of the Marshes.Chapter three comes under the title of the economic resources in the primary sector supporting industrial movements at the Marsh, and was addressed and investigated through the agricultural and livestock production and mining.Chapter four looks into the industrial activities and their geographical distribution in the marshes of Iraq, the existing industries in the marsh area include the sugar industry, paper industry, manufacturing dates, and fish canning industry Dairy, grain milling industry, animal feed industry, and other industries.Chapter five presented the economic aspects of the industries in the marshes and structural composition, and addressed the integration of industrial plants and the added value and the intensity and size of the industry and industrial diversification, structural composition was presented as the preparation industries and workshops according to the standard property. While chapter six focuses on the examination of future planning for industrial development in the marshes, through three pivots : the first one looks upon addressing the problems of the industry and its treatment, The second pivot looks upon the industrial map of the study area in the light of the possibilities available, The last pivot deals with efforts to rehabilitate the dried Marshes.The conclusion came in the most important findings of the study, according to which a set of recommendations were proposed to promote the industry in the marshes, which if implemented occupy prestigious ranking study area on the map for the State of Iraq.
