Abstract This thesis includes three chapters: The first one covers the literature concerning the structure, hybridiza- tion and evidences for the conjugation of the cyclopropyl group with an adjacent cation center. tuent substi- A review of the correlation of Hammett-type constants with the 13C NMR shifts of the cationic carbon for stable carbocations is also included. The use of NMR isotope shifts as a probe of carboca- tion structure was also discussed. The second chapter is divided into two main parts. The first part describes 13C NMR chemical and deuterium isotope shifts for derivatives of 1-aryl-1- cyclopropyl- ethyl cations 22a-i and 1-aryl-1-hydroxyethyl cations 23a-i. |
