Abstract The thesis comprises three chapters. The first chapter concerns with the literature survey on the chemistry of oximes especially from the analytical and the structural viewpoints. Oximes are recognized widely as versatile ligands which form a variety of complexes. The acid-base properties and the coordinating behaviour of some oximes [Dimethylglyoxime (DMG), Salicylaldoxime (SAO), <-Benzoin oxime (-80), Barbituric acid oxime (BAO), Thiobarbituric acid oxime (SBAO) and 2,4-pentane dione dioxime (PDDO)] are the main objectives for the studying in the present thesis. The studies are based on the evaluation of the dissociation constants of the ligands, spectrophotometrically and potentiometrically. The thermodynamic parameters of the ligands and the stability constants of the complexes are determined potentiometrically. The effect of solvents on both the mode of ionization and the electronic spectra of the ligands is investigated. The mode of bonding and the stereochemistry of the synthesized complexes are aimed to be determined using spectral methods. The second chapter is related to the experimental part. The standardization of the instruments used (uv, vis, nmr,ir and pH) and the preparation of the. |
