Abstract The Egyptian monazite contains variable concentrations of uranium(VI), thorium(IV) and rare earth elements . There are several methods for the extraction and separation of these interesting elements, but the present work aims to optimize a selective, available and economic method for extraction of these elements using trioctyl amine (TOA) dissolved in kerosene and DOPEZ dissolved in CCl4. Different parameters affecting the extraction and the best conditions were optimized and obtained at 0.06M TOA in kerosene, pH 0.8, aqueous/organic phase ratio as 1:1, 10 minutes was sufficient for the best extraction percent and all experiments were done at room temperature. But in case of DOPEZ different parameters affecting the extraction and the best conditions were optimized and obtained at 0.03M TOA in kerosene, pH 1.0, aqueous/organic phase ratio as 1:1, 15 minutes was sufficient for the best extraction percent and all experiments were done at room temperature . Scrubbing process was applied by washing the loaded organic solvent using bi-distilled water |
