المستخلص The study area is Located between latitudes 28° 30 and 30 ° 00 North, and between longitudes 47 ° 35 , and 48 ° 30 east. The length of the coast of the State of Kuwait, excluding the islands is 414.9 km. The coast of Kuwait is divided into three parts. The first part is the North coast which is (70.7 km) long , and Part II Coast of ”Kuwait Bay” which is (184.2 km) length, and the third part is the south coast with a length (160 km). The study has taken the convergence of the sea and the land and the beach area as an end to it with limited spatial analyses on the neighboring areas of the coast line as the urban area and Kontor line 50 m. The study is located in five chapters preceded by an introduction and ending with a conclusion .The summary of the thesis is : Chapter 1: Geographical characteristics of the study area This chapter is about three elements which are firstly: the natural characteristics of the coastal area. The Kuwait coastal area is generally flat and gradually slopes from west to east. Light slopes are prevailed there .The climate the tropical desert region. Secondly: The hydro dynamic factors. The phenomenon of tides, ocean currents and waves are considered the most important hydro dynamic factors that affect the Kuwait coasts .Thirdly: the human characteristics: The population of Kuwait is estimated by 3.065.850 person. The urban growth is related to the coastline as 94 % of the total populations of Kuwait are in the coast line. Chapter 2 :Geomorphological map of the study area The most important phenomena of the marine erosion which are represented in the coastal area are Marine cliffs, Shore Platforms, Marine headlands and Marine Bays. Whereas, the most important phenomena of the deposition are types of Beaches, Beaches cusps, Marine spits, Barriers and coastal lagoons, Tidal flats, Coastal Sabkhas and Coastal sand dunes. The coastline may be divided into four main kinds of beaches according to the quality of granules which are the sandy beaches, rocky beaches, muddy beaches and sandy muddy beaches. Each type of them form (44.3,29.5, 18.6 and ٣ 7.6)respectively .there is fifth kind of beaches happens because of human activities and this is the artificial beaches . Chapter 3 : Human intervention and its impact on modification coasts geomorphological of Kuwait This chapter discusses the morphologic environmental change in everywhere of Kuwait city (the capital) and Kheran city. The coast of Kuwait city has changed as its length increased from 8753 m. in 1951 to 12221 m .in 2012. As a result , The land grows by 0.687 k.m2 , The project of the front sea has changed the morphology of the coastline as there are man-made sand and recreation projects as the green island, the yacht club, and soon and these cause environmental pressures on the marine ecosystem . For Kheran city, since the start of Sabahal -Ahmed marine city project with its five stages, the coast of Kheran city has changed radically, its coast lengths have increased greatly. The lengths of Alama khour and Al-mafatah khour coasts have increased from 22.66 k.m in 2000 to 44.1 k.m in 2006 and then to 109.42 k.m in 2013. Chapter 4 : The impact of human activities in the dynamic environment changes in the study area The study named ten human activities that are responsible for the morphological environmental changes in the Kuwait coast. They are endemism population in coasts, The no corresponding environmental installations, oil, ports , the industrial installations in the coastal area, the water distillations , the water distillation plants and electricity generation, rain exits and sanitation, re creational facilities, private human activities and military activities . ٤ Chapter 5: geomorphological assessment of the study area and ways to protect Coasts of human activities There are many different kinds of the human effects on the Kuwait coasts. The most changeable area is the south coast of Kuwait Bay from Al- Sheweekh area to Abd-allah port in the south coast. In it there are all kinds of the activities. The Kuwait coast has been classified into three types according to the degree of the human activities to (area of intense change, medium areas of change and as of little change) and because of the human activities the length of the Kuwait coast has increased from 308 k.m to 414 k.m The study presents many suggestions to protect and rehabilitate the coastal area as (planting mangrove plant, protecting coral reefs and considering it as natural reservations areas. The strict environmental legislations which punish everyone who tries to spoil the marine environment. |
