Abstract The present study is an attempt to determine the sedimentological, geophysical and engineering properties of the bed rock foundation and to define a structural imagination. To achieve the possible lithological succession in the study area. These studies are enabling us to resolve some problems, which may face the construction of new cities in the desert or virgin areas especially in the Cairo-Suez district. One of the most serious problems is the swelling of clay layers at different depths, and the presence of faults, fractures and caves in the subsurface layers which cause construction damages. The focused area (Social Housing area) locates in the north western part of Badr City between longitudes 31°41 43’’- 31°4247’’ E and latitudes 300955’’- 30°1028’’N. The Badr City lies at the north of Cairo-Suez road between sign 46 Km2 and sign 56 Km2 from Cairo along this road. It is a part of Cairo-Suez district. The study area covers about 56 Km². To achieve the objectives of this study, sedimentological, engineering and geophysical measurements have been carried out. Geologically, the study area consists of Miocene (marine and non-marine) and Oligocene deposits. The marine Miocene deposits are consisted of sandy limestone, limestone, marl and clay. Non marine Miocene deposits are composed of gravels, sandstones clay and limestone facies |
