Abstract The immunocompromised host is generally defined as a person who has one or more defects in the normal defense mechanisms that protect us from infectious agents. The immunocompromised individuals are susceptible to opportunistic infections including bacterial, viral, parasitic and fungal infections. Several parasites are responsible for life threatening infections in immunocompromised patients. Intestinal coccidia especially Cryptosporidium parvum, Cyclospora cayetanensis and Cystoisospora belli, can be the cause of severe life threatening diarrhea in the immunocompromised individuals. The study was carried out to determine the prevalence of intestinal coccidia among immunocompromised children in Tanta University Hospital and to evaluate some techniques for identification of the diagnostic stages . |
