Abstract

patients that have been diagnosed to have cholecystitis and/or symptomatic gall stones, after their presentation to Suez Canal University hospital. Diagnosis was based on clinical, laboratory and radiological diagnosis.
Our study population included 52 patients which were divided into 2 main groups. the first group included patients who were candidates for Clipless LC using the and the second group included patients who were candidates for Conventional LC using the ordinary diathermy and titanium clips for division of cystic duct and artery .
Patients in either group were compared according to the clinical situation regarding their clinical presentation, associated medical problems, intraoperative findings including: intraoperative time, bleeding control, GB perforation and biliary leakage and visceral injury, postoperative data including: postoperative pain (NRC score), drainage amounts, and hospital stay.
After statistical analysis of these data it was found that the use of ultrasonically activated HS as a single working instrument showed remarkable results in the performance of LC within the present study, it showed that it is an effective surgical tool that is also safe, reliable to ensure complete hemo-biliary stasis, and is a safe alternative to the conventional method using clips for closure of the cystic duct.
