Abstract

This study presents and clarifies the role of sorption and flotation for the removal of the toxic metal ions of Hg2+, Pb2+, Cd2+ and Cu2+ from aqueous solutions using powdered lemon leaves (PLL) and powdered sea grasses (PSG) as good biosorbents with an efficiency of about 100%. Finally, the sorption and flotation procedures were succeeded in the recovery of the analytes under investigation from some natural water samples. The obtained results can be summarized as follow: 1- The flotation of PLL and PSG only as an effective and inexpensive bio sorbents by using different concentrations of HOL acid as a surfactant, different sorbent concentrations and at different initial solution pH were examined. 2- The removal of toxic metal ions as: Hg2+, Pb2+, Cd2+ and Cu2+from aqueous solutions was investigated by sorptive-flotation, using PLL and PSG, as an inexpensive and widely spread over the globe, and an effective biosorbents. 3- The main parameters (i.e. initial solution pH, sorbent, surfactant and metal ion concentrations, contact times and temperature) influence the flotation processes were examined. Moreover, the data showed that about 100% of the metal ions were removed by sorptive-flotation process at pH 7 and room temperature (25±2oC). 4- The flotation procedure was successfully applied to recover Hg2+, Pb2+, Cd2+ and Cu2+, spiked to some natural water samples.
