Abstract The main objective of this study was to investigate the effect of cinnamon, guar gum and combination of them on diabetic rats. Forty two adult male albino rats were used in this study. Animals were divided into 7 group ( 6 rats of each) ,Group 1 negative control (- ve), Group 2 positive control (+ ve) for treatment groups, group 3,4 were fed on basal diet + 5,10 % cinnamon respectively, while group 5,6 were fed on basal diet + 5, 10 % guar gum respectively, and group 7 was fed on basal diet+ (5 %cinnamon+ 5% guar gum). In the treatment groups, Alloxan (120 mglkg) was injected to induce hyperglycemia and treated with cinnamon and guar gum to 28 day. Blood glucose level for groups 3,4,5,6 and 7 showed higher values compared group 1 (-ve control) while showed lower values if compared to group 2 (+ve control). Blood lipid profile for groups 3,4,5,6 and 7 showed higher values compared to group 1 (- ve control). Liver enzymes for groups 3,4,5,6 and 7 showed higher |
