Abstract The aim of this work is to study the possibility of improvement of the pulmonary function after using the antihistaminic drugs [ clemastine (Tavegyl)and chlorph- eniramine(Allergyl) in children suffering from bronchial asthma • The study was conducted on one group of patients, This group comprised twenty children. Their ages ranged from six to fourteen years, with a mean value of 8 ± 2. All were suffering from bronchial asthma. The history of the disease was compatible with the diagnosis, and they sho- wed a mean value of FEV1 than 65% of predicted value FEV1 and the mean value of FVC was less than SO% of pre- dieted value. These patients are recorded and weekly regularly attended to the outpatient chest clinic of pediatric departement of Ain Shams University Hospitals. They were subjected to full clinical examination X-ray chest, and assesrnent of pulmonary function 75 tests using the vitalograph. The following data were obtained : Bronchial asthma was diagnosed between ages 6-14 years old. It is more revalent in males than females, our group of patients comprised twenty asthmatic children [12 males and 8 females]. Three patients, out of the selected twenty cases had an acute attack of asthma during the course of treatment, The effect of clemastine [Tavegyl] on pulmonary function tests vas much more better than the effect of chlorpheniramine [ Allergyl ] on our patients • |
