Abstract Death by the effect of the injurious physical agents is an worldWide medico-legal problem. The western published studies on such a problem. are usually of considerable national importance. reflecting some aspects of society problems. At Egypt particularly at the great city of Cairo. the problem of death by the effect of physical agents has not been pre•iously studied. Accordingly. this study was planed to shed light on the magnitude of this problem. A retrograde analysis for deaths subjected to medico-legal examination at the central morturay of Cairo at Zenhom was done. The materials used for analysis were extracted from files of 3287 deaths referred to examination. over a period of five years time (1985-1989). There were only 212 cases died by the effect of some physical agents namely. burning. scald and electrocution. Among this group of deaths. there were a group of antemortem homicidal acts (8 cases) subjected to postmortem disposal by burning. l\”o other deaths by the effect of the known other injurious physical agents have been recorded. The study revealed that. suicidal deaths by burning constitutes the major bulk of deaths by burning. followed by accidental deaths by burning. contrary to the case at the western societies. The prevailled geographical distrubution of suicidal and accidental manners of death are generally found to be at Zonal areas of lower socio-economical and educational leYels. |
