Abstract ”A Pharmacognostical Study of Pachypodium lamerei Darke, Family Apocynaceae, Cultivated in Egypt” Plants belonging to family Apocynaceae have different pharmacological effects. Pachypodium lamerei Drake belongs to this family and it’s native to Madagascar. This study includes three parts: Part I; Botanical study including macro- and micromorphology of the subterranean stem, stem and leaf in both the entire and powdered forms. Part II; Phytochemical study of the plant including phytochemical screening, extraction, fractionation, isolation and identification of different constituents from the leaves and stems and extraction, isolation and identification of constituents from the subterranean organs of the plant then investigation of the unsaponifiable matter and fatty acids of the leaves and stems by GC/MS analysis. Part III: Biological study including: determination of the LD50 of the total methanolic extract, evaluation of anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, gastroprotective and antihyperglycemic activities of different extracts and fractions of the plant then valuation of the antibacterial and antifungal activity of different extracts and fractions of P. lamerei. |
