Abstract This study was carried out to evaluate and compare the sealant retention rate, microleakage and quantitative energy dispersive x-ray analysis (SEM-EDX). The study was carried out on twenty five Egyptian children aged 6-8years. They were selected from Ebad El-Rahman orphanage at 6th October city. Fifty lower first permanent molars that were newly erupted, noncarious and with plaque retentive fissures were selected in the study. All molars were sealed so that both types of fissure sealants were used in the same child (split mouth technique). Teeth were divided into two equal groups (twenty five teeth each): Group I (Resin based pit fissure sealant with calcium amorphous phosphate): The active agent was resin based pit and fissure sealant containing calcium amorphous phosphate, (Aegis, Bosworth, Skotie. IL). Group II (Resin based fissure pit and fissure sealant with fluoride): The active agent used was resin based pit and fissure sealant containing fluoride (3M ESPE, Clinpro sealant). All children were referred to the clinic of Pediatric Dentistry Department, Faculty of Dentistry,6th October University for sealant application and evaluation of sealant retention after 3 ,6 and 9 months. |
