Abstract

This study is divided into an introductory section, four chapters and a conclusion. In the first chapter the study offers a literary survey for the history and the development of lesbianisn1 as being a branch of the history of feminism. It sheds light on LesbianislTI as a literary trend. In that context, the study offers a survey for the appearance of lesbianism, its definition, motivation, and the social implication for this sexual conduct. The following chapters study three novels in three different decades to show the development that the author achieved in her literary life.
In the second chapter ”Cows and Horses”, the thesis explains practically how lesbianism could lead to social alienation. In her Cows and Horses, Wilson explains how Bet escapes to an isolated life as a result of her lesbian attitude. Bet does not find love and care with Norah.
In the third chapter ”If You Had a F amily”, the thesis s shows another attitude towards lesbianism. If You Had a Family shows how the absence of the family leads the heroine of the novel to search for love and support throughout lesbianism. Cory did not reach a stable and happy life with her partner, Rose Mary. Wilson continued her search for a stable relationship. Thus, in 2000’ she started to write Cassandra Reilly Mystery Series.
In the fourth chapter ”The Case of the Orphaned Bassoonists”, the thesis discusses lesbianism in The Case of the Orphaned Bassoonists. In this fiction lesbianism leads the ”Jet¬setting lesbian heroine” travels to Venice to help her friend when she is accused of stealing a priceless antique bassoon. After several investigations the mystery is solved and the real thief is arrested. In this novel, unlike the previous novels, the heroine could find love, care and support with her lesbian partner. Finally, a concluding section is given examining the findings of this thesis.
