Abstract
brain tumors remain significant cause of mobidity and mortality and are often refractory to treatment.The grading of brain tumor is of prognostic value and has an important implication in clinical management.Conventional MRI has been the life long established method for evaluating brain tumors both before and after treatment.Magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) provides metabolic information about brain tumors beyond what can be obtained from anatomic image .The present study was designed to outline the possible diagnostic and prognostic role of MRS in management of different types of brain tumors.We were able to recruit 150 cases referred to Radio-diagnosis and Imaging department at Tanta University hospital either from neurology or neurosurgery departments. We finally included 98 cases found to be neoplastic in nature and excluded 52 cases found to be non neoplastic.All included patients were subjected to proper history taking, MRI and MRS examination of brain and stereotactic or open biopsy of the tumors and histopathological examination of the tumor as a gold standard method to prove the accurate diagnosis.
