Abstract

Adiponectin is an insulin-sensitizing adipocytokine mainly secreted by adipose tissue which has shown a tightinterrelation with insulin resistance.Insulin resistance is frequently seen in patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection.The insulin resistance occurring in chronic HCV is expected to induce hypoadiponectinemia. The present study aims to evaluate the relationship between HCV infection, IR, and adiponectin in a selected group of individuals with no risk factors for metabolic diseases, such as obesity and DM.
