Abstract

The Cardiac Catheterization Unit is one of the most unique medical environments in existence today. The goal of the cardiovascular lab is to perform diagnostic exams to obtain sufficient and valid data, and then to perform interventional procedures while maintaining maximal patients’ safety, comfort, and satisfaction. Patient’s satisfaction is an important factor that determines quality of medical services, and evaluates technical aspect of medical staff. (Gill and White, 2009).
The present study aimed to assess patients` satisfaction with quality of care services at cardiac catheterization unit at Suez Canal University Hospital in Ismailia .This aim was fulfilled through the following objectives; assess patient’s satisfaction with quality of care services at cardiac catheterization unit, determine factors affect patients’ satisfaction and investigate the relation between patients’ satisfaction and their socio-demographic characteristics.
Subjects in this study were convenient sample of cardiac patients who admitted to the cardiac catheterization unit within six months successive total number of patients were 120 from January first up to the end of June 2012 and agreed to participate in the study.
Data were collected by using a developed questionnaire sheet after validity of a panel of five expertises from academic university personnel, and result of reliability was 0.828 which indicate good.
The tool of data collection consisted of two parts. The first was part of the questionnaire was concerned with demographic characteristics of Patients. The second part of the questionnaire was concerned with the patient’s satisfaction with quality of available care services.
A pilot study was conducted on 20 patients who were attended for diagnostic and/or therapeutic cardiac catheterization during two weeks, to ensure that it suits the patient. The patients included in the pilot study were added to the main sample because there were not changes were done in the final versions of the tools.
The study results summarized as follows:
Most of the cardiac patients were satisfied about quality of care at cardiac catheterization unit at Suez Canal University in Ismailia, Clients who were admitted to cardiac catheterization unit were at productive age (45-60years), males, married, educated at secondary level, who in government /or Non government work.
