Abstract this study was conducted to investigate some pharmacological and toxicological effects of jojoba oil (JO). In addition, to phytochemical screening of jojoba seeds ethanol extract. Acute toxicity study revealed that oral administrated of the jojoba oil up to 70g/kg b.wt. induced no toxic symptoms or mortalities in the mice. J.O showed concentration dependent inhibitory effect on both rabbit’s intestinal motility and rat’s uterine motility in vitro. It possessed both androgen and progesterone -like effects following subcutaneous injection in immature male rats and female rabbits, respectively. Moreover, oral administration in a dose of 5 and 10 mg/kg b.wt. resulted in considerable analgesic , anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and mild diuretic activities . Prolonged oral administration of J.O to rats in a dose of 5 and 10 mg.kg-1 b.wt. (once daily for 8 consecutive weeks) resulted in a significant increase in body weight gain with improvement in blood picture of treated groups compared with the control –ve one. Significant increase in the activities of ALT and triglyceride serum levels were recorded for the small dose (5 mg/kg b.wt.) as well as AST and total bilirubin for the large tested one (10 mg/kg b.wt.). No significant differences were obtained for alkaline phosphates, urea, creatinine and total cholesterol serum levels between jojoba oil- treated groups and control –ve one. |
