Abstract Gabal (G.) El-Faliq area is located between latitudes 24o 35’ 00’’ and 24o 4200’’N and longititudes 34o 28’ 00’’ and 34o 35’ 00’’ E. It comprises an area of approximately 250 Km2. The studied area is characterized by rough topography ranging from low to moderate mountains The present work deals with the detailed investigations of the geology, petrography, geochemistry, mineralogy and spectrometry of the studied granitic rocks which covers approximately 250 km2 in the South Eastern Desert of Egypt,to identify their mode of occurrence and uranium mineralization.Detailed field mapping of the basement rocks based on the field relations and structure observations,as well as, the petrographical studies revealed that the chronological sequence of the rock types of G. El Faliq area is arranged tectonostratigraphically beginning with the oldest ophiolitic assemblage, gneisses rocks, older granites, younger granites, then, all rock types of G. El Faliq area are cross-cut by various basic dykes, pegmatites and quartz veins The ophiolitic mélange comprise serpentinite, talc carbonate rocks, blocks and fragments from meta ultramafics and metagabbro as well as amatrix represented by hornblende schist, actinolite chlorite schist and quartz biotite schist Gneisses rocks essentially composed of quartz, plagioclases and hornblende, garnet, biotite and muscovit The older granites occupy the extreme eastern side of the G. El Faliq itself and represent by both tonalite and granodiorite varieties.Younger granites are exposed at the eastern side of G. El Faliq, Naslet Abu Gabir as well as northeast of W. Abu Gherban area, it covers about 95 km2 and represented by monzogranite and alkali feldspar granite. |
