Abstract The effect of supplying secondary air into a swirl on combustor on combustion characteristics of natural gas with air is investigated. Secondary air is introduced with different rations and at different directions relative to the main combustion air. A test rig was constructed including a test combustor with an air swirler, provided with primary air, secondary air and fuel lines. The reverse flow zone boundaries were measured in two cases, without and with combustor restricted end at different swirl numbers. The flame temperatures were measured axially and radially and the flame length was measured visually. The combustor isothermal flow was simulated using the SST K-W model and combustion was simulated using the non-premixed combustion model in fluent 6.3. the temperature distribution and exhaust species concentrations were calculated at different conditions. |
