Abstract
The aim of the study was to evaluate the nutritional status of pediatric patients on MHD, either with anthropometry or laboratory measures, as well as the role of oral nutritional supplementation for and its ability to guard against malnutrition which is a common complication that may occur with CKD or HD.
This cross sectional clinical study was conducted at the Pediatric Dialysis Unit, Children’s hospital, Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt January 2009 till July 2010. It included 31patients (11 males and 20 females), their ages ranged from 6 to 21 years with mean age 13.23 ± 3.393 years. All patients were diagnosed with CRF and on regular dialysis for more than 6 months thrice weekly through either AVF or AV graft.
