Abstract The seepage problem from open channels constitutes one of the major problems facing ministry of water recourses and irrigation. Many solutions are suggested to solve the problem of seepage from channels; some solutions are by covering the bottom of the channel with concrete or asphalt, the order solution is by the use of sheet piles. The current study aims to control the seepage losses by using clay wall to decrease the seepage amount. The clay wall can decrease the seepage rate by increasing the length of seepage line. Since the seepage lines are inclined, the most effective position of clay wall has been determined by studying the effect of vertical clay wall different penetration depths in the soil and different head different (4H). similarly studying the seepage rate for different positions of the clay wall and constant head different (4H) has been evaluated. The present research examines the clay core method for seepage control which has been ranked based on the following: the magnitude of maximum exit gradient, seepage amount and, the different between seepage line level at the exit and the level of toe. |
