Abstract This experiment was carried out during two successive seasons of 1978 /1979 and 1979/1980, at qubba botanical garden , aiming to study the effect of storage and gibberellic acid as well as their interaction , on sprouting , growth , flowering and flower bud development of narcissus pseudo-narcissus var. ”van soin” Bulbs of 10 -12 cm. in circumference were digged at the beginning of June 1978 and 1979 , stored at room temperature till September 1 st. At that time bulbs were divided into three groups ; the first was stored at 10°c for 30 days starting from September 1 st , the second was stored at 10°c for 15 days starting from September 15 th , the third group was stored at room temperature. On October 1 st every type of stored bulbs were soaked (for 24 hours)in either 1.distilled water 2.gibberellic acid solution at 100 p.p.m 3. gibberellic acid solution at 200 p.p.m; then all bulbs were immediately planted. Date were recorded on sprouting date,vegetative growth , flowering date and flower quality as well as the number and weight of the produced bulbs and bulbils . the development and changes occuring in the tissues of the apical meristem of both treated and untreated bulbs were also studied. |
