Abstract Work flow management is a very rich research area trying to automate business processes. The basic concept of the workflow management is to separate the flow control logic of business processes from the functionalities offered by the applications. In addition to that, the introduction of the internet as an infrastructure has had a major impact on workflow management systems makes it hard for them to be integrated with applications due to their heavyweight architectures that cover a comprehensive set of features targeting non-technical users. This work aims at; one, achieving a better understanding of the workflow field throught studying the workflow basic concepts and some of the relasted works; two, investigating Petri Nets PNs as a soild business process modeling technique; three, utilizing the unified modeling language UML for designing a workflow engine. In addition to that, a preliminary design and implementation will be demonstrate of an object model for a lightweight workflow management engine-targeting technical users-that is intended particularly to be embedded in Java web application. The proposed system is called Core WF. |
