Abstract

Recognizing that a CBC element is abnormally high or low can influence clinical decisions. Unfortunately, the reference mnges for the various CBC elements during the neonatal period are not simple, but change considerably with advancing gestational and postnatal age.Diagnosing low or high blood concentrations of erythrocytes, platelets,or neutrophils, or abnormally small or large erythrocytes or platelets, should be evidence-based. This cannot be accomplished using the normal mnges established in healthy adults, but rather using reference I ranges derived from large neonatal datasets .The main aim of this study was to establish reference mnges for various elements of the CBC of healthy full-term Egyptian neonates. The present study was conducted on 200 neonates. A CBe and peripheral smear were analyzed for each sample collected at birth and at 7 day and two group were compared.
