Abstract

Introduction: dental implants have been considered as one of the most significant advancement in dentistry. Currently, the uses of dental implants are common in clinical practice.
Aim of the work: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the peri-implant soft and hard tissues of non-submerged dental implant that was inserted in a single maxillary edentulous space. The implants were inserted using either flapless or conventional flap surgical approach, both using stereolithographic surgical stent fabricated using cone beam technology.
Conclusion: the flapless surgical approach is more superior to the flap implant procedure. The benefits gained from flapless surgery are lessened surgical time and more comfort to the patients. As well as, it decreases bleeding around a dental implant, and reduces changes in peri-implant probing depth. In other words, it preserves the original mucosal condition surrounding an implant. Therefore, we encourage the clinical use of the flapless surgery when inserting dental implants, especially in anterior region in order to maximize the esthetic outcomes gained from utilizing dental implants as a treatment modality. Due to its nature as a blind procedure which may lead to surgical complications that can result from misdirection of an implant installation, we advise the clinicians to apply a precised preoperative computer guided planning to increase the advantages of flapless procedure.
