Abstract

This qualitative research study aims to explore the Impact of privatization, taxes, and exchange rate fluctuation on the pricing strategies adopted in fine-dining restaurants in Egypt. This aim is achieved through six objectives. The first objective was to critically review relevant literature related to privatization, taxes, and exchange rate. This was achieved in chapter two. The second objective was to critically review relevant literature related to hospitality and pricing strategies adopted in restaurants. This was achieved in chapter three. In order to achieve objectives three, four, and five a multiple case study approach was adopted. It involved conducting semi-structured interviews with mangers of financial department and their assistants, cost controllers, and restaurant managers in 5-star hotels in Egypt, and document analysis. The third objective was to explore how pricing strategies makers in 5-star hotels price their restaurant’s menu items. To achieve this, interviews were conducted with financial mangers and their assistants, cost controllers, and restaurant’s managers in 5-star hotels in Egypt and document analysis. The study explored how pricing strategies makers price restaurant’s menu items? The fourth objective was to explore the impact of privatization, taxes, and exchange rate fluctuation on pricing strategies adopted in restaurants of 5-Star hotels in Egypt. To achieve this objective, interviews were conducted with financial managers and their assistants, cost controllers, and restaurant’s managers in 5-star hotels in Egypt. The fifth objective was to explore the impact of privatization, taxes, and exchange rate fluctuation on prices of items offered in restaurant of 5-star hotels in Egypt and document analysis. To achieve this objective, interviews were conducted with financial managers and their assistants, cost controllers, and restaurant mangers in 5-star hotels in Egypt and document analysis. The sixth objective was to identify the problems emerged due to these economical influences. To achieve this objective, the researcher analyzes the results, also the researcher made comparisons between literature and the field study results, to identify gaps between theory and practice.
