Abstract

Preeclampsia is a major cause of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. The aim of this study was to improve health and reduce mortality of pregnant women and their fetus. Through early detection of preeclampsia for controlling it and preventing its complications on the mother and fetus.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out on 337 pregnant women aged from 18 to more than 35 years old attending antenatal care units in Maternal and Child Health Centers (MCH) in Mansura City in Dakahlia Governorate through the period from the first of February 2010 to the end of July 2010.
Results: The result of this study revealed that, the percentage of unaware pregnant women with preeclampsia was (4.15% out of 337) pregnant women and the most important risk factors predisposing for the development of preeclampsia during pregnancy were the presence of hypertension, renal disease, duration of pregnancy, present twins pregnancy and stressful condition.
Conclusion: This study concluded that, the percentage of unaware pregnant women with preeclampsia was (4.15% out of 337) pregnant women. And the most important risk factors predisposing for the development of preeclampsia during pregnancy are hypertension in present pregnancy, renal disease, duration of pregnancy, stressful condition and presence of twins pregnancy. Therefore, increased efforts should be made by the health care physicians in the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Centers for early detection of preeclampsia and provide the preeclamptic pregnant women as early as possible with proper antenatal care and management of preeclampsia during pregnancy.
