Abstract This study was conducted to investigate the adverse effects of some antibiotics (amoxicillin and doxycycline) on some reproductive aspects and their relation to the oxidative stress in albino rats. br The results showed that administration of both antibiotics caused a decline in some antioxidant parameters (GSH and vit C) and an increase in some oxidative stress markers (MAD, GSSG and nitric oxide) in serum which were alleviated by the addition of vit E or improved by an administration of vit E alone. Treatment with antibiotics reduced serum estradiol and elevated serum progesterone but administration of vit E alone increased estradiol and progesterone. The levels of LH and FSH were decreased by the administration of antibiotics (alone or with vit E) but increased by vit E alone. The effects of antibiotics or vitamin E were more obvious for serum FSH than for LH serum levels. The estrous cycle and the luteal phase were prolonged by antibiotics treatment, while vitamin E alone prolonged follicular phase. br Antibiotics administration decreased ovulation rate, early embryonic survival rate, litter size and live body weight while they increased embryonic mortality rate at mid-pregnancy. Administration of vit E alone enhanced growth of newborn rats, decreased embryonic mortality rate and shortened the duration lasted -#102;-#114;-#111;-#109; male exposure to female and parturition. br In conclusion, the oxidative stress which may be resulted -#102;-#114;-#111;-#109; of antibiotics daily administration has deleterious effects on growth and reproduction of female albino rats and these harmful effects could be alleviated by daily administration of vitamine. |
