Abstract

The present work was aimed at the development of bioactive polymeric materials J_g characteristics potentially useful in drug delivery systems. As already well
a careful design of polymeric structures can produce highly tailored properties :inal material and suitable biodegradation rates. Encapsulation and release of e agents can be finely tuned by modifying with the chemical composition and the :ilic/hyDROPhobic balance of the polymeric materials.
F Dly(-caprolactone) (PCL) and methoxy poly(ethylene glycol) (mPEG) chosen range of molecular weights and compositions, were the building blocks of the
meric materials investigated in this work. Both of them are already well-established
-z of physico-chernical properties and biocompatibility. By choosing suitable :: pathways, these polymeric materials were prepared to be used for drug delivery
The synthesis of three series of AB-type amphiphilic diblock copolymers,
-rg PCL and mPEG segments, was also investigated. A synthetic strategy was ented by using stannous octoate catalyzed ring-opening polymerization of - atone monomer initiated by iriPEG macroinitiator. Different feed ratios of the -
ronomer to initiator were expected to yield polymeric materials with different :eristics in terms of chemical composition, hyDROPhilic/hyDROPhobic balance, etc.
- - erization by Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FT-IR), Proton Nuclear Magnetic rice (‘H-NMR), Gel Permission Chromatography (GPC), Differential Scanning
-- retry (DSC) and Wide Angle X-Ray Diffraction (WAXD) of the polymeric : is expected to provide information about the composition, structure and
- eristics of the final polymeric materials.
\noparticles were prepared by the emulsification-solvent evaporation method on the formation of double (water/oil/water) emulsion from the prepared
-mer. Nanoparticles were characterized in terms of morphology and size. In nanoparticles containing methylene blue as a photosensitizer were prepared by emulsification method based on the formation of double (water/oil/water)
::n. Their morphology and size were characterized using transmission electron opy (TEM) and particle size analysis (PSA
