Abstract Tyloxapol (Triton WR 1339) is a non-ionic detergent that inhibits lipoprotein lipase and thereby raises levels of serum lipids. The present study investigated the protective effects of vitamin E, L- carnitine and their combination against the hyperlipidemic effect of triton WR 1339 in heart and liver tissues of male rats. A total of 104 male albino rats were divided randomly into eight groups (13 rats, 3 rats were excluded from each group for the histopathological examinations). The control group was received saline, the triton group was injected by triton WR 1339 via the tail (50 mg/lOOg BW), the L-camitine group was injected intraperitoneally with L-camitine only(600 mg/kg BW), the triton-L-carnitine group was injected with triton plus L-carnitine, the vitamin E group was treated orally with vitamin E only (0.54 g/Kg BW), the triton-vitamin E group was injected with triton plus vitamin E, the combination group was treated with L-carnitine plus vitamin E and the triton-combination group was injected by triton plus the combination. |
