Abstract This thesis aims to study the feasibility of applying Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) in truck movement in Egypt where Weigh in Motion applications (WIM) have been studied. The feasibility of using WIM systems with and without Automatic Vehicle Identification (AVI) was analyzed at eleven weighing stations in Egypt. The benefits accrued from applying WIM systems and the system cost have been determined at each station. The Benefit to Cost (B/C) ratio, Net Present Value (NPV), and Internal Rate of Return (IRR) have also been determined. Moreover, a network-wide study has been implemented on the Egyptian network and for both cases –with/without AVI – based on the results of the eleven studied stations. In addition, a Sensitivity Analysis has been conducted for one of the weighing station for 16 cases. WIM systems in Egypt is proven to be feasible whether aided with AVI systems or not. |
